The Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change’s 27th edition (COP27), held in the Egyptian city of Sharm el Sheikh, took a "historic" step by agreeing to establish the first fund aimed at providing financial assistance for the impacts of climate change. This "loss and damage" fund, agreed upon by almost 200 countries, not only recognizes the impacts the crisis has on the environment, but also those on other areas such as health and the economy.
In this video we explore the main challenges that COP27 has left us with. Among others, we analyze the concern some regions have about the lack of ambition concerning limiting temperature rise. Scientists and experts still recommend that this increase should be limited to no more than 1.5º Celsius.
In addition, specialists in the field explain the conclusions reached at this conference, which sustains the global effort to avoid the damaging effects of the climate crisis.
