The 29th edition of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) took place in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, where nearly 200 member countries reached a financial agreement in which wealthy countries will pay $300 billion annually to the developing world to mitigate the effects of climate action in those regions. The previous figure for this goal was set at $100 billion per year.
Negotiators detailed other agreements over the course of two weeks, such as the $1.3 trillion annual target for climate finance by 2035, the creation of a global regulated market for carbon emissions trading, and various initiatives for the protection of ecosystems.
