- The company and the university launch a Classroom that seeks to bring the energy transition closer to municipalities and drive sustainable development in the rural areas of Castilla-La Mancha
- The Energy Transition and Rural World Classroom will offer workshops, courses, and seminars focused on renewable energies, with a special focus on biomethane and solar energy
- The main lines of action of the Classroom will be: renewable energies, generational change, and women in rural areas
The Rural World Classroom will have an initial duration of one year and will be led by Rosario Pérez Morote, a university professor with solid experience in rural development studies and public depopulation policies. The signing ceremony, held at the Campus of the Old Arms Factory in Toledo, was attended by the General Director of Energy Transition of Castilla-La Mancha, Alipio García Rodríguez, as well as the Vice Chancellor of Internationalization of the University, Raúl Martín Martín, who highlighted: "In the last four years, we have doubled the number of patronage classrooms and increased the number of institute professor positions by more than 300%. This shows that we have consolidated our work in the territory and that we are fulfilling our mission of connecting the university to the outside world. With initiatives such as the Energy Transition and Rural World Classroom, we continue to move towards a collaborative model that promotes sustainable development and fosters knowledge in strategic areas for our community.”
For her part, Bettina Karsch, Moeve's Human Resources Director, noted: "It is an honor to inaugurate this Classroom with the University of Castilla-La Mancha." The energy transition is not only a necessary response to the climate crisis. It also offers a unique opportunity to revitalize the rural world and turn it into an engine of innovation and growth. Collaboration between businesses and academic institutions is essential to ensure that this transformation benefits everyone, by promoting sustainable and fair development.
With an inclusive approach, the Classroom will also promote the role of women and young people in the energy transition and highlight their contribution to rural development. Moeve considers its participation in the creation of a more sustainable and prosperous environment to be fundamental, and through this collaboration with the University of Castilla-La Mancha, it seeks to support its growth and visibility in the energy sector.
Activities to promote the energy transition in rural areas
The priority of the Classroom is to bring to municipalities activities such as workshops, courses, and seminars on renewable energies, with a special focus on biomethane and solar energy. In this sense, outreach sessions will be held on the opportunities of biomethane as a strategic ally of the agricultural and livestock sector, highlighting its benefits in terms of both sustainability and local economic development.
Initiatives proposed include a call for entries for Bachelor's and Master's Thesis that address topics related to promoting the energy transition in rural areas, among others, as well as a seminar and a summer course aimed at UCLM students on the subjects covered in the Classroom. These initiatives seek to inform and, at the same time, promote collaborative networks that can drive the energy transition in rural areas.
