Alex Archila has over 38 years of experience in the natural resources industry. He has been appointed Executive Vice President Exploration and Production for Cepsa based in Madrid in June 2020.
Before joining Cepsa, Alex was the President for the North America Shale of BHP, the largest player in the natural resources sector. His tenure at BHP was defined by the transformation of the BHP’s North America Shale division. Previously he was the President for BHP’s Potash business based in Saskatchewan, Canada and prior to this he was General Operations Manager for Permian Shale, capacity in which he led the development and growth of Shale business of the basin acreage following the company’s shale acquisitions.
Alex joined BHP in 2009 as the VP Strategy/Acquisitions and Divestitures, building a new team to identify and assess from a technical standpoint the acquisition targets necessary to foster the oil and gas businesses.
Prior to joining BHP, Alex was the Chief Executive Officer of Madagascar Oil Limited, A private equity firm. Alex also worked twenty three years for ChevronTexaco, his last position being President of Chevron Canada for four years. He was responsible for Chevron Canada's conventional and oil sands operations. Alex also served as President of ChevronTexaco Colombia and was VP of International Acquisitions and Divestitures of Houston based Texaco Group. In 1984 he joined Texaco in Guatemala and held roles of increasing responsibility in Angola, Colombia, the UK and the United States.
Alex served as Independent Executive Vice President Value Creation Group of Companies, and has been a member of several industry and non- profit Boards including the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAAP), the Colombian Petroleum Association (ACP) and the Glenbow Museum of Calgary. He was nominated Hispanic Engineer of the year by the National Association of Hispanic Engineers of the USA (HENAAC) and is a member of the North American Association of Corporate Directors.
