Engine replacement in H-P3 A/B pumps
Thanks to more efficient engines in the pumps we have achieved important energy savings in the Unifining unit of the paraffins plant at Cepsa’s Puente Mayorga chemicals plant.
How did we do it?
The H-P3 A/B pumps feed the furnace which heats at the bottom of the distillation tower in the Unifining unit. To maintain flows in the furnace at safe levels we needed to operate two pumps side by side due to the limitations of the old motors. This led to inefficiencies, as the engines were working far from their point of maximum efficiency.
The collaboration of the Engineering, Operations and Maintenance departments studied the hydraulics of the process and selected new high energy efficiency engines (IE3) to meet current process requirements.

The engines installed mean only one pump is needed to work continuously, increasing reliability, safety, and above all the energy efficiency of this unit.
