Cepsa Química, the world leader producer of linear alkylbenzene, the raw material used for biodegradable detergents, has launched the first digital sustainability traceability system based on blockchain technology in the detergency and homecare sector.
This new traceability tool will allow Cepsa Química’s customers to always track -through a QR code the origin of the raw materials, the certificates and, in summary, guarantees the sustainability of the products they receive. The development of this new system has been carried in collaboration with Finboot, a company specialized in the development of information platforms based on blockchain technology.
MARCO, the blockchain platform developed by Finboot, improves value chains’ management and drives digitization, sustainability and ESG agendas. MARCO connects and unifies blockchain technologies securely, turning data into trusted digital assets and accelerating the path to synergies.
The Cepsa Química and Finboot joint platform provides full product traceability, as each transaction is recorded in a safe, decentralized database. This system represents an exponential improvement compared to the current certification systems used in the detergency sector worldwide.
Technical features
Specifically, the platform is based on the full development of its five specific technical characteristics, being:
David Liras, Director of Digital, IT and Transformation Cepsa Química, said: "This new digital platform that we have just launched, makes Cepsa Química the leading company in the Detergency and Homecare sector in sustainable digital certification, while providing our customers, in a simple, secure and fast way, access to all information on traceability in the manufacturing processes and our products".
Juan Miguel Perez, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Finboot, added: “From Cepsa’s point-of view the drivers for using blockchain are clear: It allows Cepsa Química to show their clients the full life cycle – or provenance if you will – of raw materials and products. It places Cepsa Química at the forefront of transparency in their industry. Simplifying compliance reporting and certification processes – which has a direct implication on business reputation and brand value.”

- Traceability. Each transaction is recorded in the blockchain.
- Transparency. The information is accessible to anyone who has access to the blockchain. 3.
- Endurance. Everything recorded in the blockchain cannot be changed.
- Decentralization. The information is distributed in several points and not in a single place.
- Security. The blockchain processes are totally safe thanks to the dispersion of information and the cryptography it uses.
