Silvia Caminero, a chemical engineer in Cepsa's Refining Digital Transformation area, has been recognized with the WorldRefining Association's ( WRA)Rising Stardistinction at the European Refining Congress (ERTC), awards that recognize young talent in this industrial sector.
Cepsa was one of the five finalists in these awards, which has allowed Silvia Caminero to give a presentation to the ERTC Congress attendees on how the pandemic has changed its role in the refining sector. In her speech, the Cepsa engineer raised the possibility of being open to change in view of the situation that the world's population has been experiencing since the beginning of 2020 due to Covid-19. For Caminero, this option prepares professionals to face the new paradigm that affects traditional roles in refining, focusing on continuous improvement to be competitive. The Rising Starwinner highlighted in her exhibition the importance of training via mentoring programs , conferences and working groups, among others, to share knowledge with people from different companies; the reinforcement of digital communication with process engineers in refineries through virtual platforms, developing new projects during the pandemic, even without previously meeting in person; and finally, the development of new digital projects.
Silvia Caminero Huertas, a native of Puertollano (Ciudad Real), is a chemical engineer from the University of Castilla-La Mancha and later studied for a Master's degree in Energy and Fuels for the Future at the Autonomous University of Madrid. His professional career was developed primarily in the area of research. He has been with Cepsa for three years, where he started at the La Rábida Refinery in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva). He is currently working at Torre Cepsa in Madrid, carrying out the digital transformation in Refining projects.

Prior to the WRA congress, process engineers are nominated by refineries in the region for their work in the industry. From a short list of five, one is voted the Rising StarAward winner . These awards give emerging engineers a voice.
